Optivision^® is chock full of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants to help maintain a healthy eye while helping maintain vision. An ideal formula to prevent age related eye diseases (ARED).

The Age-Related Eye Disease Study (AREDS) is a major clinical trial sponsored by the National Eye Institute, one of the Federal government's National Institutes of Health. The aim of the AREDS was to 1) Learn more about the natural history and risk factors of age related macular degeneration and cataracts, and 2) evaluate the effect of high doses of antioxidants and zinc on the progression of age related macular degeneration and cataracts.  

The AREDS [study] showed that high levels of antioxidants and zinc significantly reduce the risk of advanced age related macular degeneration and the associated loss of vision. These same nutrients had no significant effect on the development or progression of cataracts, however.

Features and Benefits

Optivision^® consists of the following:

1. Vitamin A - Vitamin A and its precursor, beta carotene are necessary for night vision.

2. Thiamine - also known as Vitamin B1 (thiamine). The B vitamins, as a whole, may help reduce chronic inflammation and prevent elevated homocysteine levels in the blood, which have been associated with vascular problems affecting the retina. B vitamins also may play a role in reducing the risk of macular degeneration and in the treatment of uveitis, a common cause of blindness.

3. Niacin - also known as Vitamin B3 (see # 2 for description of B Vitamins and their beneficial effects in the prevention of macular degeneration and uveitis).

4. Selenium - Vitamins A, C and E are primary contributors for healthy eyes. Selenium helps the absorption of Vitamin E.

5. Vitamin C - Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant. Vitamin C was part of the AREDS formula. Multiple published studies have shown that Vitamin C reduces the risk of cataract formation.6. Riboflavin -

7. Zinc - Zinc helps your body absorb vitamin A and also helps many antioxidant enzymes in your body reduce the number of free radicals. Zinc has been shown to protect against macular degeneration and night blindness.

8. A Proprietary blend consisting of eyebright extract, L-Taurine, tomato, Lutein, Lycium fruit extract, Ginkgo Biloba extract, Alpha Lipoic Extract.

Lutein is a carotenoid and has been shown to reduce the risk of macular degeneration.

Extracts from Gingko Biloba contain phytochemicals that provide protection from oxidative stress in the entire body, including the eyes

Alpha Lipic Acid is an antioxidant that enhances function of Vitamin C (see above, #5) and Vitamin E and is both neuroprotective and cardioprotective.
