I had laser by a plastic surgeon in Amherst and it was not effective. They did not check for underlying vein insufficiency. I was very disappointed and sure enough I came for second opinion after spending and wasting over 1000 dollars. I should have known that the plastic surgeon just dabbled in this as they would bunch me up with a bunch of other patients and they brought in a leased laser machine for the day for the plastic surgeon to use. I sensed that he was not comfortable with using the machine and nevertheless he kept on bringing me back and charging me for his failed laser procedures. I heard about Dr Karamanoukian from my doctor who has sent him a lot of patients. I was similarly pleased by his evaluation and treatments. My veins are gone and my legs are feeling great and look amazing. I recommend that you see a vein specialist and ask a lot of questions when you choose a doctor who is treating vein issues. I got tired of seeing different doctors who did one vein procedure or another. I saw a radiologist and had VNUS Closure and later some general surgeon who sent me to his wife to get injections. I finally made up my mind and saw Dr K who only does vein procedures and is 95 of what he does. I was very impressed by him and his office and office staff. I had the VNUS procedure by another doctor and when I went back for the varicose veins they told me that the 'number scoring system' was such that I was fine. But I was not. They sent a venous severity score to my doctor and my doctor agreed with me that I had not completely benefited from the VNUS procedure. I still had lots of itching over the varicose veins a huge vein behind my knee and leg aches and swelling. I got a second opinion at the Vein Treatment Center from Dr Karamanoukian and one additional microphlebectomy procedure helped relieve all of my problems. It was a cinch. I recommend Dr Karamanoukian highly. I know that doctors don't like to take care of other doctors' problem patients but he took me on as a patient and I am very hapy with his work. Her recommendation was highly weighted as she had a super experience and she told me her leg swelling and pain went away within 2 weeks. I had phlebitis and they took care of me right away and treated me expeditiously and later did a single vein procedure in the office. They took care of all of the paperwork and I only had to show up for the procedure. Went back to work the same evening and usd the treadmill the following morning. I am half way between Rochester and Buffalo and saw a doctor in Rachacha before I came for a second opinion to the Vein Treatment Center. I heard about him on the Sabres commercials and was reluctant to make this decision based on a hockey commercial. I wanted a Board Certified vein doctor and found and called the American College of Phlebology after a Google search and was given only two names one of which was Dr Karamanoukian. He took care of my vein problems after he diagnosed a heart problem. He heard a murmur when he listened to my heart during my first visit and ordered an echo of he heart because he thought I had aortic stenosis. Sure enough the echocardiogram diagnosed aortic stenosis which is mild but nevertheless he was the only one who heard this thing and I have had over 20 doctor visits in the last 5 years and no one ever appreciated this murmur or heard it. I have a two cusp aortic valve as opposed to three cusps which needs to be monitored so that i don't have problems later. I am very happy that he found this problem. I found out later that he is also a cardiothoracic surgeon. So I would go to see this doctor before you go anywhere else if you want someone who is thorough and really examines your heart and vascular system. Do your homework and come and see him. You won't regret your decision.
