These are the desirable values for blood cholesterol fractions: Total Cholesterol - Less than 180
LDL Cholesterol - LDL is the low density lipoprotein. It is the "bad cholesterol". Less than 120 for healthy individuals Less than 100 for those with risk factors of heart disease
HDL Cholesterol - HDL is the high density lipoprotein. HDL is the "good cholesterol" and provides significant "protection" against the development of heart disease if levels exceed 50. HDL levels between 40 and 50 confer some protection against the development of heart disease. HDL levels below 35 imply that you are at increased risk for the development of heart disease
