What is the relative incidence of pulmonary embolism versus deep vein thrombosis (DVT) with pulmonary embolism (PE)?

Nicholson M, Chan N, Bhagirath V and Ginsberg J report on this in their manuscript published in the Journal Clinical medicine 2020; volume 9(8): 2467.  Prevention of venous thromboembolism in 2020 and beyond.

    This is what they reported:

about two-thirds of venous thromboembolism episodes manifest as DVT.

one-third of venous thromboembolism episodes manifest as PE with or without DVT.

Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is the third most common cause of vascular mortality worldwide and comprises deep-vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE).
